Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child: Cold Vengeance (Special Agent Pendergast)
Only ok as a thriller. I hung in there because I know the characters from other book in the series, but overall the book is slow and the ending not an ending at all but just a set-up for a sequel. Not up to Preston & Child's usual standards. (**)
Marion Roach Smith: The Memoir Project: A Thoroughly Non-Standardized Text for Writing & Life
"It's not about you." This is the best advice of the book, which is fairly readable but could have been edited down a bit. Talk of the Nation's interview with the author is worth checking out: http://www.npr.org/2011/07/13/137822505/start-your-memoir-project-with-a-relatable-story. (****)
The inspiration for Balancing Pose is the experience of yoga postures that feature standing on one leg. You are rooted and moving at the same time. Reflections here are mostly about things that offer balance in a life where the temptation is to tip too far toward work.
Pilgrim Preaching began while I was away from Luther Seminary chapel during my first sabbatical year. I started writing on biblical texts as part of my own devotional life and ended up posting what I wrote.
